Course Description:

The World Workshop of Periodontists' classification of peri-implantitis and periodontitis identifies and assesses specific risk factors that may contribute to the rate of progression and complexity of long-term case management. Peri-implantitis and periodontitis treatment protocols and strategies will be presented. Treatment options to regenerate peri-implant and periodontal health predictably, including root coverage grafting, will be discussed.  

  

Course Objectives:

  • Implement systems to create a more periodontally aware practice.
  • Establish evidence-based periodontal treatment protocols.
  • Understand the indications of periodontal regeneration and root coverage procedures.


Guest Speaker:

Mark Mangelson, DDS, MS

Dr. Mangelson is board-certified in periodontics and implant surgery by the American Board of Periodontology. He received his DDS from Creighton University and did his training at the University of Oklahoma, where he received a Master of Science degree in Periodontics. He is an active member of the American Dental Association and the Utah Dental Association. He has served as past president of the Intermountain Society of Periodontists and as a Utah Dental Association delegate. Dr. Mangelson has a full-time periodontal and implant practice in Salt Lake City and has worked for 24 years as an associate professor at the University of Utah Advanced General Dental Residency Program and teaches part-time at the University of Utah School of Dentistry.
