This course begins by providing the student with a basic knowledge of pharmacology and providing a foundation for the administration of medications given by the EMT-Basic. Then specific topics are addressed where medication use may or may not be warranted. Examples include respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies including AED use, diabetes and altered mental status, allergies, overdoses and behavioral emergencies. Medical-legal issues of handling the psychological patient are also addressed.
