Welcome to the Inaugural Intergenerational Poverty Research Conference at the University of Utah supported by the Intergenerational Welfare Reform Commission! Your expertise is vital, as we work to build collaborative partnerships aimed at mitigating and eliminating intergenerational poverty in Utah with an innovative approach to support families.

Conference Goals

  • Provide a forum for state agencies to discuss data collaboration possibilities to address the goals established by the Intergenerational Welfare Reform Commission in its 2014 annual report,
  • Develop impactful collaboration teams between agencies, academics, students and other stakeholders; and
  • Develop actionable goals for data merging and analyses that will contribute to Utah’s Fourth Annual Report on Intergenerational Poverty, Welfare Dependency and the Use of Public Assistance. These goals will continue to be developed and will be presented at a second research conference in the Fall of 2015.

  • Date: Friday, March 27th 2015
  • Time & Schedule:
    • Registration: Open at 8:30am (Breakfast Provided)
    • General Session: 9:00-11:15am (Overview of goals, Hear from Senator Stuart Reid, Panel Session with Agency Executive Directors)
    • Lunch Keynote  – Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams: 11:30-12:45 (Lunch Provided)
    • Collaborative Workshop Sessions and discussion: 1-4:30pm (Collaborative Workshops)
    • Cost: Free (However, please register for lunch)
    • Location: University of Utah, College of Social Work: Goodwill Humanitarian Building Room 155a (Free parking available across the street by the football stadium)
