APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program (CCIP) Courses: 

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

CCIP Level 1 Overview -

Open to physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and other health care professionals, this voluntary program is designed primarily for people interested in or involved with clinical education (clinical instructors [CIs], site coordinators of clinical education [SCCEs], academic directors/coordinators of clinical education [ACCEs/DCEs]) and is recognized by APTA as a Clinical Instructor (CI) Credentialing Program.

The Level 1 program outcomes:

  • Describe the Parallels between the characteristics of the practitioner and clinical educator. 
  • Prepare for students' clinical education experiences.
  • Identify student learning needs and areas of competence. 
  • Design high-quality learning experiences for students at all levels of experience.
  • Implement clinical teaching methods and supervisory techniques that support ongoing adult learning. 
  • Provide effective formative and summative evaluation. 
  • Recognize legal and supervisory implications for clinical educators, including issues presented by the Americans with Disabilities Act legislation, Medicare regulations, and the Patient's Bill of Rights.
  • Identify student-specific qualities and performance indicators.

CCIP Level 2 Overview

Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program Level 2 (CCIP 2) is the successor to APTA's former Advanced Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program (ACCIP). This voluntary program is designed for physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and other health care professionals who have successfully completed the APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor Level 1 Program (CCIP 1), and want to further develop their clinical teaching skills and construct a clinical curriculum. The unique philosophy and design of CCIP 2 both applies and goes beyond the concepts of the structured learning environment of CCIP 1 to enable clinical educators to achieve the best outcomes for student learning.

The Level 2 program:

  • discusses the benefits and key components of a clinical curriculum
  • advances clinical teaching concepts learned in the CCIP Level 1 course as applied to the novice-mastery clinical practice continuum
  • integrates teaching professionalism in a clinical curriculum promoting the guiding principles to achieve the Vision for the Physical Therapy Profession and Professional Core Values
  • assists with the diagnosis and fostering a student’s clinical reasoning
  • outlines a clinical curriculum to provide key learning experiences critical to patient/client management in the student's practice upon graduation and licensure
  • integrates interprofessional education and collaborative practice into a clinical curriculum
  • integrates teaching advocacy into a clinical curriculum
