APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program
(CCIP) Level 1 Overview
Open to physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and other health care professionals, this voluntary program is designed primarily for people interested in or involved with clinical education (clinical instructors [CIs], site coordinators of clinical education [SCCEs], academic directors/coordinators of clinical education [ACCEs/DCEs]) and is recognized by APTA as a Clinical Instructor (CI) Credentialing Program.
CCIP Level 1 Overview
- Describe the Parallels between the characteristics of the practitioner and clinical educator.
- Prepare for students' clinical education experiences.
- Identify student learning needs and areas of competence.
- Design high-quality learning experiences for students at all levels of experience.
- Implement clinical teaching methods and supervisory techniques that support ongoing adult learning.
- Provide effective formative and summative evaluation.
- Recognize legal and supervisory implications for clinical educators, including issues presented by the Americans with Disabilities Act legislation, Medicare regulations, and the Patient's Bill of Rights.
- Identify student-specific qualities and performance indicators.
